Hymes is correct, and apparently a brain tumor is a plausible explanation as to why Novak really didn't see the guy. Even so, pedestrians do get hit in DC. And pedestrians get hit by bicyclists who aren't looking where they're going (happened downtown in Cville recently). And a good friend in Portland is having major surgery tomorrow because of a pedestrian-caused accident (she was commuting on a scooter). Care needs to be taken all around (especially by drivers, yes. Maybe we all just need to walk (cellphone free).

Turns out Novak has a brain tumor, diagnosed yesterday. He's in the hospital.

Sorry to hear about the tumor, you don't want to wish that on anyone, even aggressive drivers.
